The Government of India has issued an office memorandum on the 11th of April, 2023, declaring the 14th of April, 2023, as a closed holiday on account of the birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. This holiday is applicable for all Central Government Offices including Industrial Establishments throughout India.

The Indian government has declared a holiday on 14th April 2023, in honor of the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R Ambedkar. This decision was made by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions (Department of Personnel & Training) and has been communicated through an office memorandum with the reference number F. No.12/4/2020-JCA.

Dr. B.R Ambedkar was a prominent Indian jurist, economist, and social reformer who played a key role in drafting the Indian Constitution. He was born on 14th April 1891 and is widely regarded as the architect of the Indian Constitution, which is one of the longest and most detailed constitutions in the world. He was a champion of social justice and worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the Dalits (formerly known as the untouchables) and other marginalized sections of society.

The holiday has been declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act,1881 (26 of 1881), which empowers the government to declare a holiday for all central government offices including industrial establishments throughout India. This decision will allow employees of these offices to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R Ambedkar and pay tribute to his contributions to the nation.

        It is essential that all these entities communicate the holiday to their respective employees and make necessary arrangements for their celebration.
